March is a planning month. The northern hemisphere's first major festivals are still six weeks away, and even the southern hemisphere has mostly wrapped for the year. Use March to finalise travel, compare line-ups and get ahead of the summer festival job market.
Very few major outdoor festivals run in March. Boutique indoor events, desert festivals in the southwestern US and South America, and a handful of Asian events fill the gap, but this is a quiet month by global standards.
Coachella in California, in mid-April, traditionally kicks off the northern hemisphere festival calendar. European festivals start in late May and early June, with the UK season opening at Download in mid-June.
Finalise travel and accommodation for June to August festivals, apply for festival season jobs, and start building a packing list specific to each event's conditions.
