Skiing in Graubünden
Graubünden is Switzerland's largest canton, with big, separate ski areas rather than one linked domain. It has three sections: Surselva, the Arosa, Lenzerheide and Davos area, and the Engadin.
Laax, with Flims and Falera in Surselva, has somewhere between 175 and 225 km of pistes, depending on how ski routes are counted, with a high point on the Vorab glacier at about 3,018 m. It is known for its large freestyle parks as well as wide, open intermediate runs.
Arosa Lenzerheide joins two valleys over the Urdenfürggli for about 225 km of pistes up to 2,865 m on the Parpaner Rothorn, a good all-round area for intermediates and families. Davos, with neighbouring Klosters, has several separate mountains; the Parsenn is the largest, with around 97 km of slopes up to about 2,844 m and long runs down towards Klosters and Küblis.
The Engadin around St. Moritz sits high, with the valley floor above 1,800 m, so snow at village level is more reliable than in many Alpine resorts. Corviglia, above the town, has sunny, well-groomed cruising; Corvatsch reaches about 3,303 m with a glacier and a reputation for good snow; and Diavolezza is a quieter, high glacier area. Across the Engadin there are around 350 km of pistes.
The main season usually runs from late November or early December to April. Rail is the easiest access: Chur is the gateway, with Rhaetian Railway lines on to Davos, Arosa and St. Moritz, and Zurich is the main airport.
