Every spot gets a composite score out of 10 using the factors on the right. Expand any row above to see the exact contribution of each factor.
Sustained wind from 12 to 50 km/h on a linear ramp. More wind always scores higher. Above 50 starts to decline as overpowered.
Gusts more than 1.5x sustained wind penalise heavily. Steady wind is safe wind.
Cross-shore is ideal (1.0x). Offshore is dangerous for kiting and scores 0.3x.

Every 6 hours when the conditions cron runs. We pull fresh wind, wave, and weather data for every spot and recalculate each score.
How is the score calculated?
Each spot gets a composite score out of 10 based on wind speed (linear ramp favouring stronger wind), gust consistency, wind direction relative to the beach, wave height, and rain. Expand any row to see the breakdown.
Why does stronger wind score higher?
Unlike surfing where calm conditions are ideal, kiting and windsurfing need wind. The scoring uses a linear ramp from 12 to 50 km/h. A 40 km/h day genuinely is better than a 20 km/h day for most riders.
What about offshore wind?
Offshore wind is dangerous for kitesurfing as it can blow riders out to sea. It receives the heaviest directional penalty (0.3x). Cross-shore wind, which blows parallel to the beach, is ideal.
Where does the data come from?
Open-Meteo Weather API, which aggregates forecasts from global weather models. The same underlying data powers many wind forecast apps.
Are these the same spots as the surf leaderboard?
Some spots appear on both leaderboards. A spot like Ho'okipa can be world-class for surfing on calm days and world-class for kiting on windy days. Many wind spots like Tarifa and El Gouna are exclusively wind-focused.
