How the score works

Every location gets a weighted composite score out of 10, using the factors on the right. It is transparent by design. Expand any row above to see the exact contribution of each factor.

Fresh snow40%

Snowfall in the last 48 hours. The single biggest factor. 30cm+ maxes the score.

Snow depth20%

Total snow base at the resort. A 2m+ base gets full marks.

Temperature15%

Around minus 5°C is ideal for preserving snow. Too warm melts, too cold is brutal.

Wind15%

Calm is better. 60 km/h and up starts closing lifts.

Conditions10%

Clear or light snowfall days score highest. Rain on snow kills the score.

Frequently asked questions

How often is this updated?

Once a day, at around 06:00 UTC. The leaderboard pulls fresh weather and snow data for every resort, recalculates each score, and saves a daily snapshot so we can track movement over time.

How is the score calculated?

Each resort gets a weighted composite score out of 10, based on fresh snowfall (48h), snow depth, temperature, wind speed and current weather conditions. Expand any row on the leaderboard to see exactly how it breaks down for that location.

Where does the weather data come from?

Open-Meteo, a free and open weather API that blends forecasts from multiple national weather services. It is the same data used by many outdoor apps and weather sites.

Why is a resort I love not on the list?

We focus on the world's most popular ski resorts for seasonaires, across the Alps, North America, Japan and the Southern Hemisphere. If there is somewhere you want to see added, email hello@peakwave.co and we will consider it for the next update.

Does this mean it is the best place to work right now?

No. Work seasons are booked months in advance. This leaderboard is about the best skiing right now, not where to apply for a winter season. For that, head to our destination guides and job listings, which cover hiring timelines for each resort.

What do the movement arrows mean?

They show rank change compared to yesterday's snapshot. A green up-arrow means the resort climbed the leaderboard since yesterday; a red down-arrow means it dropped.
