1980
Winter becomes organised
The mountain's east slope is home to a major ski area which boasts the greatest vertical drop east of the Rockies, and which hosted the alpine skiing competitions of the 1980 Winter Olympics.
THE LIVING MAP
The mapped place
Whiteface is recorded at 44.366° N, 73.887° W. Its catalogue reference reaches 1,483 metres. A modern resort map compresses terrain, exposure and access into a diagram. This exhibition keeps the underlying contour visible so the place does not become only a list of facilities.
