ACCESS CHANGES

A route reaches Riksgränsen

Due to railway politics and limited range for steam locomotives, trains changed locomotives and crew and a roundhouse for locomotives was built.

ORGANISED SPORT

Winter becomes organised

It is the most northerly ski resort in the world, being roughly 200 kilometres (120 mi) north of the Arctic Circle; the skiing season is from February to June, and from the end of May the lifts operate under the midnight sun.

THE LIVING MAP

The mapped place

Riksgränsen is recorded at 68.428° N, 18.127° E. Its catalogue reference reaches 910 metres. A modern resort map compresses terrain, exposure and access into a diagram. This exhibition keeps the underlying contour visible so the place does not become only a list of facilities.
