BEFORE TOURISM

Before the resort map

The linked local overview does not preserve a clear account of La Clusaz before modern tourism.

This edition leaves that part of the timeline open rather than mistaking the first surviving sporting reference for the beginning of the place.

1902

A route reaches La Clusaz

In 1902, the opening of the road connecting Annecy and the Thônes Valley with the Aravis Valley allowed La Clusaz (formerly a small and remote village) to become a tourist centre for summer and winter sports.

THE LIVING MAP

The mapped place

La Clusaz is recorded at 45.903° N, 6.427° E. Its catalogue reference reaches 2,477 metres. A modern resort map compresses terrain, exposure and access into a diagram. This exhibition keeps the underlying contour visible so the place does not become only a list of facilities.

TODAY

La Clusaz now

Shopping in La Clusaz is much like other small alpine villages - centred on local shops specialising in either local delicacies such as cheese, meats and wines, or ski shops.
