BEFORE TOURISM
Before the surf map
The linked local overview does not preserve a clear account of Praia do Guincho before modern tourism.
This edition leaves that part of the timeline open rather than mistaking the first surviving sporting reference for the beginning of the place.

ORGANISED SPORT
Surfing reads the same coast differently
In the 1990s, Guincho served as a venue for the Professional Windsurfers Association World Cup tour, drawing international competitors and helping establish the beach's reputation in the global wave sports community.

THE LIVING MAP
The mapped place
Praia do Guincho is recorded at 38.729° N, 9.474° W. A surf map fixes a name to one stretch of moving water, but the place changes with tide, swell direction, wind and the shape of the seabed.
