ACCESS CHANGES

A route reaches Crested Butte

The surviving overview does not identify one decisive access date for Crested Butte.

This edition therefore leaves that date open rather than turning gradual change into a false single event.

Winter becomes organised

Crested Butte’s lift-served ski area opened in the early 1960s, adding a winter economy to a town shaped first by coal mining and ranching.

THE LIVING MAP

The mapped place

Crested Butte is recorded at 38.899° N, 106.967° W. Its catalogue reference reaches 3,708 metres. A modern resort map compresses terrain, exposure and access into a diagram. This exhibition keeps the underlying contour visible so the place does not become only a list of facilities.
