La Torche is a powerful beach and point break in Brittany, at the western tip of France. A rocky headland creates a defined left on bigger swells, while the wide beach offers multiple peaks. It faces south-west into the Atlantic and receives enormous amounts of swell. The Breton landscape is wild and Celtic in character. One of France's most consistent spots outside the Basque/Landes coast.
Picks up south-westerly and westerly Atlantic swell. A north-easterly wind is offshore. Works on all tides. Consistent year-round with the biggest swells arriving October through March. The 3-6ft range is ideal for the beach section. The point works in bigger swells (6ft+). Brittany receives as much swell as anywhere in France.
The point break left on the north side of the headland is the premium wave but needs a solid swell. The beach break south has multiple peaks for all levels. Choose based on conditions and ability.
Powerful waves on bigger days. The point has rocks. Strong currents around the headland. Cold water (4/3 wetsuit minimum year-round). Exposed to Atlantic weather. The point break is for experienced surfers.
Free parking at the headland. Short walk to either the point or the beach. Limited facilities but improving. The village of Plomeur is nearby.
Moderate. Less crowded than the Hossegor/Biarritz area. The Breton surf community is growing but remains smaller. Good days see 15-20 people. The point attracts a tighter crew on bigger swells.
La Torche is Brittany's flagship spot and a good introduction to the region. The coast either side has dozens of undiscovered breaks. Breton crepes and cider are the local speciality. The water is cold but the consistency is outstanding. If La Torche is too big, sheltered bays nearby offer gentler options.

Based on historical weekly averages
Combining historical conditions with school holiday crowd pressure to find the sweet spot.
How busy each week is based on school holiday overlap from feeder markets.
The timing score combines two signals: historical conditions quality (how good the skiing or surfing typically is in a given week, based on 5 years of weather data) and crowd pressure (how many of this destination's feeder markets have school holidays that week).
Crowd pressure is weighted by each feeder country's share of visitors. If 40% of a resort's visitors come from France and France is on holiday, that contributes 0.40 to the crowd pressure score. Crowds can reduce the timing score by up to 35%, ensuring conditions still matter most.
Scores: 5 = great conditions with low crowds (the sweet spot). 4 = great conditions with moderate crowds, or good conditions with low crowds. 3 = average. 2 = below average conditions or very crowded. 1 = poor conditions or peak holiday chaos.

Honestly, no. Every break has tide windows, swell directions and reef contours that a global model cannot see. Treat the score as a starting point, then check a local cam.
