Spot guide

This guide was generated from conditions data. Know this spot? Submit your own tips below.

## The spot Oludeniz is a stunning turquoise lagoon on the Turkish Riviera, famous for its calm, crystal-clear waters and the dramatic Babadag mountain rising behind it. The lagoon is primarily a swimming, snorkelling, and paragliding destination rather than a surf spot. The sheltered bay within the Blue Lagoon provides flat, warm water ideal for leisurely ocean activities. The combination of Mediterranean climate, dramatic geology, and warm Aegean waters makes it one of Turkey's most popular coastal destinations. ## When it works The lagoon is best for water activities from May through October when water temperatures range from 20-28C. The sheltered orientation means it rarely receives waves. Paragliding off Babadag operates year-round in suitable wind conditions. ## Where to sit The Blue Lagoon (inner lagoon) is the calmest section, perfect for swimming and floating. The main Oludeniz beach faces the open Mediterranean and can have mild chop. Stay within the lagoon for the flattest conditions. ## Hazards Minimal hazards in the lagoon. Sea urchins on rocky sections near the shore. Strong sun exposure. Paragliders landing on the beach create occasional hazards. The open beach can develop mild currents. ## Parking and access Paid car parks near the beach. The Blue Lagoon has an entrance fee for the nature park. Full tourist facilities including restaurants, shops, and water sports operators. Oludeniz is a 15-minute drive from Fethiye. ## The crowd Extremely popular tourist destination. The beaches are crowded from June through September. The lagoon is busy with swimmers, kayakers, and paddleboarders. Early mornings offer the quietest water. ## Local tips This is a swimming and relaxation spot, not a surf destination. The Blue Lagoon entrance fee provides access to the most protected, scenic section. Combine water time with a tandem paraglide off Babadag (1,900m above the beach) for one of the world's most spectacular flights. The quietest swimming conditions are before 9am in summer.

Frequently asked questions

How often is this page updated?

Current conditions refresh every 3 hours when the cron runs. Hourly data updates every 30 minutes. The 7-day forecast, luck factor, and packing notes are all pre-computed at the same time.

What is the luck factor?

We compare the 7-day forecast to the last 5 years of marine data for the same week at Oludeniz. The delta tells you whether conditions are shaping up better, worse, or about the same as a typical late May.

How is 'best session' picked?

We score each day of the 7-day forecast using the same algorithm as the leaderboard, and highlight the highest scorer.

Where does the data come from?

Open-Meteo's Marine API (swell height, period, water temperature) and Weather API (wind and conditions).

Does the score capture local knowledge?

Honestly, no. Every break has tide windows, swell directions and reef contours that a global model cannot see. Treat the score as a starting point, then check a local cam.
