It is Cantabria's primary surf beach and has a well-established surf culture. The setting is pleasant with views across to Santander's skyline. Waves are fun and accessible, working well for beginners through to intermediate surfers. ## When it works Picks up north and north-westerly swells consistently. A southerly wind is offshore. Works on all tides. Consistent October through April. The 2-5ft range is ideal. The north-facing beach captures most available swell. Summer has smaller but rideable waves. ## Where to sit Multiple peaks across the long beach. The main section near the surf schools is busiest. Walking east reveals quieter peaks. The banks shift but the beach is reliable year-round. ## Hazards Generally safe. Sandy bottom, manageable waves. Rip currents on bigger days. Crowds in the main area. Strong currents can develop near the river mouth at the western end. ## Parking and access Free and pay car parks along the beachfront. A ferry crosses the bay from Santander for those without a car. Numerous quality spots exist within 30 minutes in either direction. The ferry from Santander makes it accessible for city visitors. Cantabria has excellent seafood and a lively food scene. Mornings tend to be calmest before the sea breeze builds.
