Gracetown

## The spot Gracetown is a powerful reef break in the Margaret River region of Western Australia. Multiple breaks exist around the headland (North Point, South Point, Huzzas) producing heavy, hollow waves over limestone reef. The water is cold for WA and the lineup is sharky (great whites patrol the area). When it is on, the quality is world-class. Dramatic cliff setting. ## When it works Needs solid west or south-westerly groundswell from the Indian Ocean. An easterly wind is offshore. Best at mid to high tide. The 5-8ft range produces quality barrels. Works primarily May through September when Indian Ocean storms deliver consistent swell. Less reliable in summer. ## Where to sit North Point and South Point are the main breaks, each side of the headland. North Point is a right; South Point is a left. Huzzas is in the middle. Each breaks over limestone reef. Choose based on swell direction and ability. ## Hazards Shark zone (great white sightings are regular). Shallow limestone reef. Powerful waves. Cold water. Isolation. This is serious West Australian surfing. Always surf with others and stay alert. ## Parking and access Car park at the cliff top. Steps down to the various breaks. The headland walk connects the viewing points. Remote with basic facilities. ## The crowd Smaller than east coast spots due to WA's sparse population. Good days see 10-20 people. The shark risk keeps some away. The local Margaret River crew are experienced. A respectful, knowledgeable lineup. ## Local tips Shark awareness is non-negotiable in this region.
