Praia do Amado

## The spot Praia do Amado is a popular beach break on the Algarve's western (Costa Vicentina) coast in southern Portugal. Unlike the south-facing Algarve beaches, Amado faces west into the Atlantic and receives consistent swell. The beach sits in a natural amphitheatre of cliffs with golden sand and clear blue water. Multiple peaks across the bay suit all levels. It is the Algarve's most consistent surf beach. ## When it works Picks up any westerly Atlantic swell. A north-easterly wind is offshore. Surf schools from Lagos and the Algarve bring groups. The beach is large enough to spread out. Walking to the northern end thins the crowd. A friendly, relaxed atmosphere. ## Local tips Amado is the go-to west coast spot for anyone based in the Algarve. When the south coast beaches are flat, Amado will have waves. Combine with nearby Arrifana (similar exposure, different character). The cliff-top restaurant has panoramic views. The Algarve's warm climate means comfortable surfing year-round with a 3/2 or even a shortie in summer.
