Why do a ski season?

There's nothing quite like a winter season. You wake up in the mountains, ski or snowboard on your days off, work alongside people from all over the world, and build friendships that last a lifetime. For many people, a season is the most memorable few months of their life.

But it's also a big decision. You're committing to several months in a new country, often in a physically demanding role, away from home. The more you prepare in advance, the better your season will be.

Choosing your resort

The first decision is where to go. Popular resorts for first-time seasonaires include:

Think about what matters to you: the size of the ski area, the social scene, the type of work available, and your budget.

Finding a role

Most first-timers go for chalet host or chalet chef roles. These are the backbone of the season. You'll cook, clean, and look after guests in a luxury chalet. It's hard work, but you get accommodation, food, a lift pass, and plenty of ski time.

Other common roles include driver (airport transfers), nanny, bar staff, and hotel receptionist.

The best time to start looking is August–October for a December start. Create your profile on PeakWave, set your availability, and let employers find you. The earlier you start, the more choice you'll have.

What to pack

Pack less than you think. You'll be living in shared accommodation with limited space. Essentials:

Making the most of it

The people who have the best seasons are the ones who say yes to everything. Go to the staff parties, join the ski races, explore the resort on your days off, and be open to new friendships.

It's also important to pace yourself. Seasons are long, and the combination of altitude, physical work, and social life can catch up with you. Look after your body, get enough sleep, and don't burn out in the first month.

Your season will fly by faster than you expect. Enjoy every moment of it.
